At the time of this redesign, The Bank of California was the oldest bank in the Golden State. Our identity system was designed as a revitalization of the bank’s earliest logo. The gold pan, pick, and shovel celebrate the bank’s roots in the gold rush era of the past century. The woodcut illustration links the past with present, while the type treatment lends an air of stability and security to this venerable institution. The logo was applied to a wide range of items using diverse processes such as screen printing and embroidery.
